We headed into Helsinki on the bus again. Eventually found a cafe open for some breakfast, they seem to sleep late here! Two tables were drinking beer for their breakfast πΊ, coffee and juice for us ☕️π₯€
Very pretty area down by the water, market square was full of stalls selling beautiful fresh produce and also handicrafts.
Santa is no longer coming this Christmas because all the reindeer are dead π
Bought our hop on, hop off bus tickets and headed off to explore Helsinki. The commentary was very interesting to listen to - headphones π§ with multiple language choices.
We started at the cathedral
Then we headed down to the harbour area, lots of cruise ships and hundreds of yachts out racing on the water. It was sunny, warm (about 22-23) but very windy so they looked like they were having a great time.
There is lots of green space and it is all beautifully maintained, being Saturday there were also loads of people out enjoying the sunshine ☀️
We ran into another RQ member at the airport the other day and he told us to go to the Rock Church. There was a wedding on when we arrived so we had to wait half an hour but it was well worth it. The ceiling is all copper coiled around, and the rest of the church was just beautiful.
We carried on to the tram museum and found a nice restaurant for lunch, this is another country that serves no alcohol beer, seems like every where does now except Australia π¦πΊ!! Don’t look at the picture if you are fearful of calories, but it was very nice and we won’t need dinner so two meals in one πΊπ
Walked up to the Olympic stadium, which is undergoing a 3 year renovation to become a soccer and athletics stadium. Olympics were on in 1952 so it needed a facelift. Stopped at botanic gardens then headed back to town
Back to hotel on the bus, checked in ready for flight to Dublin tomorrow then had a quiet evening.
Fitbit app says we walked 9.3 Km’s and did 14,728 steps - not bad for a days outing πππ
Down to the bar for a drink and light snack, then off to bed we go, flight is at 8:20am ⛳️π⛳️π
